“We have welcomed the arrest of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) members as the initial positive step,” he further added. Welcoming Pakistan’s move to bring perpetrators of terror attack to justice, Swarup said India will host the special investigation team (SIT), formed by prime minister Nawaz Sharif to pursue evidence to book culprits. But, before hosting them, India is expecting Pakistan to file a proper FIR on the basis of the actionable evidence.
There were conflicting reports about the arrest and detention of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar after Pakistan media reported a raid on a seminary run by it and arrest of several people. “The seminary has been sealed for further investigation,” Geo News had reported.
Nawaz Sharif’s office also released a statement. “Based on the initial investigations in Pakistan, and the information provided, several individuals belonging to JeM have been apprehended,” it said. “The offices of the organisation are also being traced and sealed. Further investigations are underway,” it added.
The Facebook page of Al-Rahmat, a front of JeM, however, denied this. “Non-believers all over world are jumping (sic) that I have been arrested. The arrest which never happened. Even if I am arrested, that will hardly make any difference. Nothing will happen, Nothing,” posted Masood Azhar.
He slammed prime minister Sharif, asking whether he will also arrest Pakistan Army’s gallantry award winners, who have got them for fighting India.
