Five silver shehnais and other mementoes and gifts of late shehnai maestro Bismillah Khan goes missing from his son Kazim Hussain’s residence which was locked for a few days. The theft came to light on Sunday night.
Kazim said that on November 30, he had gone to his ancestral home. When he returned late Sunday night, he found lock of main gate broken.
He went in and was shocked to see the five shehnais and other gifts missing.
He spoke to MLC Shatrudra Prakash and informed him about the incident before lodging a complaint with the police.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nitin Tiwari said that teams have been deployed to solve the crime.
He said these five shehnais were gifted to him by former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Congress leader Kapil Sibal and a former pupil.
Police said Kazim had preserved these items as legacy of his father who had been gifted these items by his fans.
He had shifted his father’s gifts from his ancestral house in Hadha Sarai to a new house in the city’s Dalmandi area which he bought recently.
“One of these shehnais was very special which my father used to play on the fifth and seventh days of Muharram,” said his son Kazim Hussain.
