IPL 2023: The stage is now set to host IPL 2023 Mini-Auction. There were talks to have it held to be held in Istanbul or Bengaluru This time, but the auction will take place in Kochi on the 23rd of December in 2022. The formal announcement will be made following the end of the ICC T20 World Cup Final. The auction will be a mini-auction since each team will have an established team that they constructed in the IPL 2022 mega auction that took place earlier in the year.

The BCCI has set November 15 as the deadline for the franchisees to send the final list of retained players. The franchises can retain 15 players this time and will be forced to release the remaining 10. For IPL 2022, the team size was fixed at a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 25.

IPL 2023 Mini-Auction

The IPL 2023 mini-auction will take place on 23 December in Kochi. Earlier, the deadline for retaining and releasing players from IPL squads has expired in less than a week. All the 10 Indian Premier League franchises are working overtime to see which players should be retained and whether to release the players by November 15. Most of the noise is coming from Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians camp as these teams are ready with their choices.

With less than a week left to submit the list, all the franchises are in a hurry to finalize their rosters ahead of the mini-action on December 16.

IPL 2023: 1. Royal Challengers Bangalore

In the IPL 2023 auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have to make a few decisions before submitting their list of retained players. While opening remains a problem despite du Plessis’s presence, the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed are sure shot retainers. In the bowling department, players like Vanindu Hasranga, Mohammad Siraj and Harshal Patel are expected to retain their place in the team.

2. Chennai Super Kings

The four-time champion was planning to release Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the auction. Although skipper MS Dhoni is playing the role of a bridge, the franchise is doing everything they can to retain Jadeja. However, the same cannot be said about the likes of Chris Jordan, Adam Milne and Michelle Santner who have not been able to give their best for the Yellow Army and may be released.

Top retained players:

MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dubey, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Mukesh Chowdhary, Dwayne Pretorius, Deepak Chahar.

Probable release players:

Chris Jordan, Adam Milne, Narine Jagadeeson, Mitchell Santner.

They will be released after Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu retire.

3. Mumbai Indians

Like CSK, Mumbai Indians (MI) too had a bad time during the last edition of the IPL. The team management needs to get in touch with their senior player Kieron Pollard. However, the Men in Blue and Gold will surely retain their core members of the team including Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah.

IPL 2023: 4. Gujarat Titans

Debutant Gujarat Titans created history after winning their maiden IPL in the last edition. GT also has a strong core team with the likes of Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, David Miller and Shubman Gill. However, the same cannot be said for Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade, who had a tough time during IPL 2023. Defending champions may also release the likes of Vijay Shankar and Varun Aaron.

Trade In: As per reports, GT is interested in trading Ferguson for Shivam Mavi along with KKR.

5. Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals considered themselves unlucky. They won 7 games in the 14 matches they played and finished 5th after missing out on a playoff spot. Under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, DC would like to do much better and try to win the trophy in the upcoming season. The biggest name in the release list is of Shardul Thakur. DC want to trade him with CSK for Jadeja. However, this is not happening at the moment.

The Capitals will certainly retain David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, Rovman Powell, Mitchell Marsh apart from their skipper Rishabh Pant.

6. Rajasthan Royals

The likes of Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shimron Hetmyer, Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal were the main cast for RR. He is expected to retain his place in the team. The Jaipur-based franchise may let go of some players including Express pacers Navdeep Saini and foreign batsmen including Daryl Mitchell, Rassi van der Dussen and Corbin Bosch.

IPL 2023: 7. Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings (PBKS) recently announced Shikhar Dhawan as their new captain of IPL 2023. The left-handed batsman has replaced Mayank Agarwal. But Agarwal’s tenure with PBKS is likely to end due to poor form. PBKS will have to take some important decisions before handing over the list of retained players on November 16. Players like Shah Rukh Khan and Odeon Smith are also on target for release.

Experienced players like KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Evin Lewis, Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya are expected to be retained. LSG may opt to drop Kyle Meyers, Dushmantha Chamira, Manish Pandey, Shahbaz Nadeem and Ankit Rajput from their squad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad performed poorly in IPL 2022 as they lost seven out of 13 matches in the previous edition. Nothing clicked for the Orange Army in 8th place. SRH are expected to retain their captain Kane Williamson despite scoring just 216 runs last season. Express pacer Umran Malik will also be retained. Players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Nicholas Pooran and Washington Sundar are also expected to retain their respective places in the team.

KKR will definitely retain Shreyas Iyer, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy. Two-time champion Pat Cummins, Nitish Rana, Sheldon Jackson, Rinku Singh and Umesh Yadav can also be kept in their team. It is expected that KKR will trade with Shivam Mavi and bring back ace pacer Lockie Ferguson in the team.
