“Five Must Visit DHABA’s On The Way To Manali-Leh Highway”

Manali-Leh Highway is functional only for four and half months in a year. On the road trip to Ladhak mostly no itinerary provides lunch to motorcyclists and travelers during the journey, because to such a high altitude you will see no life except people traveling with you. But there are few legendry people who own DHABA’s on such high altitude and takes care of traveler’s food and rest.

Marhi : 3300 Meters

Marhi – the gateway to Rohtang La from where the ascend to this 3980 meters high altitude pass begins. Marhi would be the first stop for the travelers in their journey. Many DHABA’s and stalls are available which provides Magical Maggi, Egg preparations, packaged food and water, and a proper lunch. This would be the last crossing where abundance of food and people are seen, after crossing Marhi the real journey begins.

Koksar: 3140 Meters

After crossing Rohtang La check post, the downhill drive reaches all the way to the small town of Koksar which is a check point, where couple of eateries and a guest house is available. one Dhaba who servers Red Meat and rice is ultra delicious, they also serve Kashmiri Rajma for vegetarians. From Koksar the taste of food will remain in your senses, because Rajma Rice and Meat rice is the only food you will get in common during remaining journey.

Bharatpur: 4300 Meters

Rolling down from the snowy mountains of Baralachha your body will demand some hot sips. And Bharatpur will provide that warmth and rest to your body. Hot simmering soups, must needed tea/coffee will push you down to continue the journey after having some rest. Air is thin and high altitude sickness will start following you from the Baralachha, so having rest in Bharatpur will also make you uncomfortable with air at first; but after having some hot drinks it will make you comfortable.

Pang : 4600 Meter

Round and round; downhill to Gata loops you will come across Pang village. Few Dhaba’s are available where in Sonam Auntie’s Dhaba is most popular among them. It is more of a tourist attraction place because the warm welcome with a cup of butter tea’ kindness and generosity is a specialty of Sonam Aunty. She provides quality food and stay to the travelers. Her love for cooking made her pursue this business since last 40 years.

Tanglang La: 5328 Meters

The last of the five high mountain passes on the Manali-Leh route, the Tanglang La, is the highest of the lot with an altitude of 5328 meters above the sea level. Tanglang La (5328 meters) is considered as the 2nd highest motorable road in the world – the first being the Khardung La pass (5601 meters) at Ladakh. Where the availability of any eatery is next to impossible but one legendary person dares to setup a tent in which he provides Maggi and soup. The tent over tanglagla is not statutory; it depends on your luck and the season.

Once you cross Upshi, you are just 47 KM adrift of the magical aura of Leh. Your excitement would prompt you to reach there as fast as you can. But don’t let the temptation ruin your senses. Leh is a proper city where in you will find multi cuisine restaurants, and Wazwan cuisine of Kashmir, which will end your food craving under a pleasant atmosphere.
