The Gujarat Tribal Educational Society (GSTES) or EMRS Society was established as a self-governing association on 3 January 2000 by the Department of Tribal Development, Government of Gujarat and registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950, see Registration No. F/676/Gandhinagar. Since 2015 Effective 11th February, GSTDREIS has changed its name to Gujarat Tribal Educational Society (GSTES).

GSTES was established to establish, maintain, control and manage quality schools for talented and deserving ST students. The association currently operates three types of schools across the state: Eklavya Model Boarding School (EMRS), Girls Literacy Boarding School (GLRS) and Model School (MS).

Currently, the association manages a total of 91 schools, of which 27 are EMRS schools, 2 GOG certified schools of VKY are operating under EMRS mode, 5 Ashram Shala are operating under EMRS mode, 43 GLRS schools, 12 MS schools and 2 Senik schools.
